Sand Casting
Sand casting is a relatively low cost process, and it is known as one of the few available processes to work with metals with high melting temperatures, including stainless steel, carbon steel, nickel, titanium, copper alloyes and so on. Sand casting is flexible that a great variety of items can be produced with this method. Sand casting is also one of the oldest metal fabrication in the world. After thoussands of years of progress, sand casting today is highly automatic, can produce precise parts, parts with thin walls or complex shapes are achieveable by sand casting.
Locktiten's custom manufacturing services take advantage of relatively low cost sand casting process to provide mass quantity of sturdy and durable parts to our customers. In some cases, the sand casting is required to reduce porous as much as possible. Locktiten would suggest gravity casting or centrifugal casting to achieve this task. Some of the sand casting parts need smooth surface, which is usually done by sand blasting, grinding, polishing and painting to achieve this requirement. In fact, some of the metal decorative parts are produced by sand casting because it is relatively low cost and it can be modified with a few steps of secondary processes. Locktiten works collaboratively with customers to design sand cores and patterns for each spcific custom sand casting.
As of today, sand casting is probably the most widely used process in producing metal custom manufactured parts to our cusotmers. The porduct weights ranged from a few grams to around 100 kilograms with a variety of shapes and functions. The tooling cost is relatively inexpensive. The quality of the product would relay on the skills of sand mold building of the operators, who were well-trained and well-experienced. The quality of sand core is also a decisive element in the successful execution of the whole process. Other than traditional method of creating sand cores, we adopt 3D printing to produce sand cores for several difficult to produce items.
